On a site I visit often, someone posted that when the Canal was returned by Carter to the Panamanians, two PTs were found in an unused power plant. I asked for his source of this information, but got no response. Anyone shed any light on this?

Al;
Bad Rumor or misidentified boats.
At the time of turnover, the only Patrol Boats in Panama were our (SBU-26) 3- 68’ MK IV Patrol Boats(PB), PB 841, PB 842, and PB 843. As of today, 8 December 2021, PB 841 and PB 842 are corroding away on blocks outside our old Weapons Department Office. I don’t know the current location of PB 843(I haven’t found her yet), but I do know she was the last one in operational status.

During that timeframe There was a boat I know was a converted 78’ Higgins PT which was used as a ferry and supply boat to Toboga. It was dark blue with white trim named DONA (Spanish for lady pronounced DOAN-YA). It used to be moored at the old Balboa Yacht Club, and sometimes across the water from our piers. I have a photo of her at home, I think I posted it here years ago, so I will search for it. As for her current location, I have not seen her since 2000-2002, so I don’t know where she is….or if she still exists. I look for her every time I go down to Panama. She was definitely very used!
BTW Al Capone’s Yacht is still in service as a tour boat!

Thanks again Ted! Good to kill the roomers, but I wish just once you would find a cheap 77' boat. The Capone boat is interesting, I sure did not know about her! Funny, Capone was only the boss for a little les then six years, yet I had to look!
