As the title says, I'm am considering converting the airfix raf rescue launch model into Hubert Scott paine's pt-9.
Does anyone know the color of the boat throughout its time in being studied by elco?

PT9 carried at least two different schemes while in ELCO hands: The initial scheme was an overall dark gray.

A subsequent scheme had Standard Navy Gray vertical surfaces and Dark Gray horizontal surfaces.

This will be a major conversion. The AIRFIX hull is over an inch too short and the superstructure has very little in common with that on PT9.

Have you thought of using a Linden Hill kit?

I got the MGB64 kit a month or so ago. Expensive, but wicked nice! The book on the BPB boats is, too.

Thanks for the info guys, it would require a lot of work.
In the event that it doesn't work out I may just build it standard, it's at least an ok start.
If I get that far I will try to post pictures.

Also I wasn't aware of the mgb64 kit lol, should have done more research.
That's okay, I don't regret buying the model, like I said if if doesn't work, build it standard.

Al,

Thanks, I completely missed the release of the 70 foot BPB by coastal craft. These are fabulous kits, www.coastalcraftmodelsuk.com. I presume MGB 64 was also hull lines of the PV-70 design, in other words the same hull as PT 9. Is that correct?

What book are you referring too? Not sure I have seen a book dedicated to the BPB designs.

Thanks,

Bill

Yes it did have the same hull and superstructure of pv70, which was technically used for the rescue launches, but with different superstructure and shorter length(63')

Bill,

Here's the cover:

and a sample page:
[image]http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i204/alross2/BPB/bpb_0002_zps3euihivl.jpg[/image]

Soft cover, 48 coated paper pages with excellent reproduction.

Like the kits, it's a bit pricey but, IMHO, worth every penny! I've been in contract with the author and there are some interesting future projects on the way. We may be sharing some stuff... [:-grin-:]

I got mine from Linden Hill Imports here in the States http://www.lindenhillimports.com/coastalcraft.htm . Good folks, great service.

It's funny that in my quest to build my pt-9 model, I had never even heard of these.
I saw the raf rescue launch and thought that I could make due, where were these models in my search? 😀

At this point I think I have just decided to complete the model as a rescue launch, but I will try to take another look at the coastal craft model 70' MGB.
I will post results if I get to that point.

Hi Nic,
You need to be patient when you post just press the button once. It does not show up immediately so a lot of folks keep pressing the Post button and then that is what happens. LOL
