Hello, my first post here. Thank you all for having me. I’m researching a friends grandfather and trying to see if I can get any more info. He was on PT-230 and was Lt. Commander Lloyd Anderson and in RON 17. Thank you guys. Absolutely love the PT’s and glad I found this place!

Here is what I found after a quick search. I have had luck getting in contact with PT Boats INC for pictures and info on specific boats. Also you can check the national archives and find War Diarys about the boat and RON 17.

Completed 29 March 1943, placed in service and assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron SEVENTEEN (MTBRon 17) under the command of LCDR Russell B. Allen, USN
MTBRon 17, assigned to Hawaiian Sea Frontier, arrived at Pearl Harbor late in 1943, In February 1944, the squadron was shipped to Majuro Atoll, in the Marshalls, where it conducted patrols but had no
enemy contacts. The squadron returned to Pearl Harbor in April and was shipped, a few boats at a time, to the Southwest Pacific. PT's 227 and 230, the first to arrive in the Southwest Pacific, as part of Task Unit 70-1.4, were awarded the Navy Unit Commendation for action at Mindoro, P.I., from December 15 to 19, 1944
The "Sea Cobra", ex-"Moll Flanders" was placed out of service, stripped and destroyed 19 November 1945 at Samar, Philippines.

Here are some national archives search results for action reports and war diaries, respectively, involving PT-230. You can un-check "available to access online" to see what else may lurk there, and just hasn't been digitized yet.

In the book, At Close Quarters, on page 504 it lists a Ensign Anderson, Lloyd USNR being a Bronze Star recipient.

I was looking for some more PT-230 and MTB RON 17 act reps or war diaries, but it looks as though, starting around November 7, 1944, PT-230 was operating as part of Task Unit 70.1.4 / COMTASK-GROUP 70.1 and there seem to be a few more war diaries and act reps specific to that task group and task unit, respectively.

Here are a couple of more search links. For each, as well as the ones I posted earlier, you want to take a look at anything with an interesting or related-looking date range, or with PT-230, COMTASK-GROUP 70.1, or Task Unit 70.1.4 in the title. Hopefully, if you can't find a specific mention of him, you will get a decent picture of what was going on around him.

With regard to Travis's post from At Close Quarters, without knowing if you have or have access to a copy of the book, here is a link to a searchable online copy.

https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/CloseQuarters/index.html

Ens Anderson's Bronze Star award is on pg 504 under the awards link, and the pages Travis posted can be found within the link to Part VIII and start around "First Days at Mindoro."

It doesn't specify for which action Ens Anderson was awarded, but I'm guessing it's in that general date range.
