Anyone out there have any info or specifications on the deck stiffeners that were retro-fitted to the 77-foot Elco boats? Mainly I would like to find out if they were bolted down plumb vertical or if they reflected/followed the approximate 4-degree camber of the deck. I realize this question is a bit arcane, but on a larger scale model it will be clearly discernible. It would also be of interest to know how they were produced: a single piece of 40-foot old growth lumber? Maybe they were laminated??

Hi Frank,
I'm not sure if this will help or not, but navsource has a few interior pics of PT-59, as well as a pic of the mostly-destroyed deck of PT-63. I can't tell what I'm looking at, or for, so I can't say if you'll be able to spot anything, but wanted to pass it on.

Thanks Joe. Unfortunately the Navsource photo of the fore-deck of the wrecked PT-63 does not offer a view of the deck stiffeners. Navsource does have some nice photos however...the view of PT-66 is one of the best I have seen in favor of the stiffeners being attached in the plumb vertical position which means the bottom of the stiffener would have been milled to compensate for the camber of the deck. Bit I do appreciate the reply since no one else seems to have any info on the subject.

Ohh, is that the long plank some of the PT-66 sailors have their foot up on?
I will look around and see if anything else jumps out at me.

Thank you Joe. I'm embarrassed to say I have looked at those same photos probably a dozen times and not tripped to the fact that they do indeed show the stiffeners as being mounted perfectly vertical rather than at the same angle of the deck. What a dunce! Right there under my nose. Thanks again!
