HELLO EVERYONE-
AS I PROMISED YOU ALL, I WILL HAVE PICTURES OF MY WW II PT BOAT BASE AT TULAGI.
THESE PHOTOS WERE TAKE BY KATHY ULSHAFER THE WIFE OF BOB ULSHAFER WHO IS A MEMBER MY SHIP MODEL CLUB.
THESE PHOTOS SHOW MY DIORAMA IN A SLIDE SHOW! THE ENTIRE DIORAMA COVERS SIX BANQUET TABLES ALONG WITH THE DOCUMENTATION.
THE STRUCTURE SHOWN WITH THE ROOF REMOVED IS THE SICK BAY ON THE ISLAND OF TULAGI. THE INTERIOR IS COMPLETELY DETAILED RIGHT DOWN TO THE BED PANS, INJURED IN THEIR BUNKS, MEDICAL STAFF AND SURIGAL ROOM. THE FRONT 2/3RDS OF THE BUILDING IS THE SICK BAY THE REAR 1/3RD IS THE SURIGAL ROOM!
THERE ARE THREE PT BOATS SHOWN 169 IN ZEBRA STRIPES, THE 196 AND THE 176 IN THE FLOATING DRYDOCK.
I MUST MENTION HERE AND NOW, THAT THIS ENTIRE DIORAMA "FLOATS'!! THE DIORAMA IS INTERACTIVE WITH THE RADIO CONTROLLED PT BOAT MODELS! THERE IS AN UNDERLAYMENT OF THICK STRYOFOAM UNDER EACH SECTION. EACH SECTION WAS BUILT LIKE A SURF BOARD. I CAN PLACE THIS ENTIRE DIORAMA IS SAY A POND, A CALM LAKE OR AT POOLSIDE, TURN ON THE TRANSMITTER FOR THE PT'S AND IT'S LIKE WW II IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC ALL OVER AGAIN WITH ONE BIG EXCEPTION! NO ONE GET WOUNDED AND EVERYONE GETS TO GO HOME!!!
THIS DIORAMA HAS TAKEN ME MORE THEN 10 YEARS TO BUILD. THERE IS A LOT OF SCRATCHBUILDING ON THE DIORAMA DUE TO THE SIMPLE FACT THAT MODEL COMPANIES SEEM TO HAVE FORGOTTEN COMPLETELY ABOUT THE WAR IN THE PACIFIC. WORKING FROM THE ACTUALL PHOTOGRAPHS THAT WERE SENT TO ME BY THE VETERANS THEMSELVES I WAS ABLE TO REPLICATE IN MINIATURE THIS HISTORIC ONE OF A KIND DISPLAY!
THE SCALE OF THE DIORAMA IS 1/32 OR 3/8" = 1 FOOT ANYWHERE ON THE DIORAMA!
I WISH TO THANK ALL PT BOAT VETERANS, THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS WHO HAVE SENT ME PHOTOS OVER THE YEARS SO THAT THIS DIORAMA CAN BE DOCUMENTED. WITHOUT THEIR HELP THIS PROJECT WOULD HAVE NEVER COME TO LIGHT!
HERE IS THE WEB SITE ADDRESS TO VIEW THE DIORAMA-
THIS LINK HAS BEEN UPDATE _ DIRECT TO PHOTOS - 02/18/2010

That's a great layout that you have there.
I can see why it's taken you so long . Great detail work.

Incredible! You have patience I'll never have. It looks great...good job! I especially like that the display has depth to it...there are a lot of little things here and there, not just a couple of boats and a dock. Thanks for sharing...fantastic display.

Hi, I am Frank Ryczek'sa daughter & I wanted to post some pictures that I took from this past saturdays, Regatta. I am so proud of my dad. He is working on my PT 176. We hope to get her in the water real soon. I even had him add a a dog w/puppies in the lifeboat on the deck. Gotta remmeber the canine war heroes as well!
